Every year we have always the same problem: “how can I clean my Rib without damaging its tubes’ surface?” Here it is a complete tutorial for the restoration of your inflatable boat. Here it is a complete tutorial for the restoration of your inflatable boat.
Materials: water pipe with pressure control, sponge, cleaner and mildew remover, microfiber cloths, bucket.
- Step 1: Cool down
It’s very important to cool down the surface with a lot of water. All detergents have collateral effects on hot surfaces, so you must rinse thoroughly before the application. Avoid doing the treatment under sun’s rays.
- Step 2: Apply the product
Spray the detergent on the surface. Use it only for 50 cm2 each time. Leave the detergent to act for the time it needed (it depends on the type of product you use), then rub with a non abrasive sponge. If you use an abrasive sponge, you’ll damage the surface with scratches. Don’t let the soap dry out on the surface, because you could not recover it anymore.Check the compatibility of product with surface in a hidden spot. If it is too powerful, dilute it in water. Do not use household soaps. They are not designed for these surfaces and can create serious irreparable damage to the tubes. Use only products specific to the materials. If the boat is in the water check the biodegradability!
- Step 3: Rinse
Remove soap and dirt with plenty of water. You can help to remove it with the sponge. Be sure to remove all the detergent. Then check the surface. If it’s still dirty, repeat steps 1,2,3.
- Step 4: Remove the mildew
Apply a mildew remover with a soft sponge or a microfiber cloth. Don’t use water because it will reduce the effect of detergent. You can do this phase under sun’s rays because UV rays blocks mold development and increase the soap’s effect.
Let the mildew remover act on the rib until you see the mold disappear. If it’s not enough, repeat after rinsing and drying the surface.
Note: Every product is different. So check the action of detergent on the rib in a hidden point.
- Step 5: Rinse and dry
Carefully remove all the detergent and dry with a microfiber cloth.
- Step 6: Apply the wax
Waxes are used to restore the lucidity and elasticity of the inflatable boat and extend the life of the rubber.
Apply the wax on dry surface with a microfiber cloth. Be careful to spread the wax without leaving streaks. Don’t use waxes in spray cans, because they have a limited effect. Preferably use liquid wax. Don’t do this phase with high temperatures or hot surfaces because the wax can dry before you can stretch it. If you are not satisfied you can apply a second hand.
After these steps you’ll have your rib restored. If you are not sure of what are you doing avoid to do the treatment by yourself and contact the operators in the sector.
