At the Genoa Boat Show 2021 that took place in September from 16 to 21, the Joker Boat officially unveiled the brand new Clubman 22 Plus with a completely updated layout that aims to offer the most comfortable on board living in its class.
With a length of 6.83 meters, a large sunbathing area at the bow and stern but also a completely redesigned hull for a softer and more pleasant navigation, the new Clubman 22 Plus is a very interesting suggestion as a family rigid inflatable boat.
On the edge of the bow, above the junction of the tubes there is a small polyester platform which is lined with teak and provides a comfortable step for boarding, while the cleats are very well adapted to its side surface so as not to carry the risk of injury.
Further back a spacious sundeck is shaped under of which there are two storage spaces, the front of which hosts the windlass and the anchor chain while the back one is bigger and can comfortably accommodate the rescue equipment of the boat and several of our luggage.
The console is centrally located leaving satisfactory passageways to its port and starboard while the instrument panel has the space required to mount a large navigation screen, engine instruments, VHF, radio-cd and the boat switches.
The windshield is quite high, offering very good protection of the screens and the driver from the wind and the spray.
The engine control is centrally located with the steering wheel on the left having the right inclination so that we can drive comfortably in any position.
The double helm seat offers good lateral support and is located on a bench which, in addition to the storage space, also offers access to the fuel tank.
One of the most important features of the Clubman 22 Plus is the folding backrest of the driver’s seat which is raised and moved forward forming a double seat that faces the stern, thus increasing the number of people sitting around the table.
At the stern there is a large U-shaped sofa which in combination with the detachable central table creates a large dining area or a largesunbathing and relaxing area if we lower it to the height of the pillows.
On our test boat a 4.2L V6 Yamaha 250 hpengine was hung which with a reduction ratio of 1.75: 1 was turning a 3-blade 15 ¼΄΄x 18΄΄Saltwater Series II stainless steel propeller of Yamaha.
Carrying 190 liters of fuel and the necessary equipment of the boat, with three crew members we left the port of Genoa where the big waves did not allow us to develop all the engine rpm so as not to manage to complete our measurements.
Nevertheless, we pushed the boat several times to its limits where its robust construction was immediately noticeable without squeaks and unwanted noises, while our ride was soft and quite dry.
The Rib was standing on plane at 11 knots despite the great height of the waves while riding quite comfortable at 3000 rpm maintaining a constant speed of 19 knots with a fuel consumption of 1.3 liters per nautical mile.
At 3500 rpm we ran at 25 knots consuming 1.32 liters per mile while at 4000 rpm we reached 30.5 knots burning 1.5 liters for each nautical mile.
Due to the big waves, our measurements were instantaneous and therefore indicative and not absolute. It is certain that with better weather conditions we can see better numbers both in cruising speed and fuel consumption.
What we kept from our short test is the very good quality and solid construction of the Clubman 22 Plus, its soft cruising and of course the high sense of safety that gave us despite the disproportionate weather conditions in relation to its size.
