It would not be an exaggeration to say that Tempest 44 optimally combines the performance of a mega-Rib with the comfort of a luxury yacht. It is a lifestyle brand synonymous to enjoying life at sea.
Following several decades of experience, the Capelli boatyard can be proud for the design and construction of really many models of vessels, offering a lot of choices regarding both fiberglass and riged inflatable boats ranging from 2.20m to 13.10m and covering all the needs the friends of the sea may have.
Using materials of the highest quality and paying special attention to the quality of their products’ finish, Capelli boatyard has managed to build a great name in the market, which is now a guarantee of quality and reliability for prospective buyers.
We were on board on the Tempest 44, the Capelli rib flagship, which was equipped with triple 350hp four-stroke Yamaha outboards which actually constitute the maximum horsepower the transom of this thirteen-meter rib can host.
I don’t know if the name of the Rib was the cause, but we went out into the waters of Genoa under the threat of a tempest hanging literally over our heads.
The waves may have been high, but the truth is that they looked very small when riding on the Tempest 44.
Its 13 meters of length and 6 tonnes of displacement were opening the way among the waves and the mega-rib was running like a train, disregarding the state of the sea.
Yamaha's 1050-horsepower was «roaring»and its soft ride could only raise our adrenaline at high levels.
The three powerful Yamaha outboards lifted us onto plane at the 2800 rpm with a speed of about16 knots and, carrying five people and about 900 litters of fuel, we reached at 49 knots while consuming 378 litters per hour. The most economical cruising speed was 32 knots at 4000 rpm, burning 160 litters per hour.
Tempest 44 was riding very stable at its top speed while it was quite flexible, with notable accelerations despite its large size and the three engines on its transom. Its general behaviour was excellent, keeping a very good ride attitude even when traveling at low speeds.
Its deep V hull cut the sea remaining «indifferent» to the direction of the waves, and at no point did we feel any vibration or pounding even when the mega-Rib was falling from a great height into the sea.
In general, we can say that the Capelli Tempest 44 is a seaworthy mega-Rib which can offer impressively enjoyable off-shore cruises to far destinations, providing all the comforts during our trips.
Wherever you look at it, you can only be impressed. The entire deck seems to have been designed by people who are well aware of the needs and comforts that are essential to enjoying life at sea.
The large and well-designed cockpit, the large and beautiful wet-bar, the living space with the two tables and the spacious sundeck of the stern are definitely some of the strong points of the Capelli Tempest 44.
All of this promises you unforgettable moments by the sea whether you are moored on a beautiful beach or during your long trips, giving you the comfort of hosting a lot of people without feeling cramped.
The steering wheel with the controls and the instrument panel are located on the starboard side of the console.
On dashboard there is the appropriate multi-level space for the installation of large displays, having the ideal inclination so that everything is easily visible and accessible by the helmsman.
On the port side of the console is a door that allows access to the cabin, while on both sides of the cockpit there are wide stairs and comfortable walkways leading to the bow.
By opening the sliding door and going down three steps, we enter the large cabin which is synonymous to luxury and can accommodate four people with great comfort. The luxury and attention to detail made us forget that we were on a riged inflatable boat. We were rather feeling like we are in a small suite of a very good hotel.
With a height of two meters, the cabin includes a full kitchen with a refrigerator, a stove and a sink, which faces the separate toilet-bathroom, the height of which reaches 1.80 meters.
The driver and co-driver enjoy full protection behind the huge console and the wide windscreen. Behind the helmsman’s seat a beautifully designed wet-bar is located, equipped with a gas stove, a sink and a 50lt refrigerator.
A little further behind the wet-bar we come across two trapezoidal bench-seats, which also serve as storage spaces, between which there is a wide passage for the comfortable movement of the passengers. These benches together with the two tables and the aft four-seater sofa create a very beautiful and particularly multifunctional area.
The 2.25m x 1.85m aft sundeck offers a huge sunbathing and relaxing area for more than two people. On its port and starboard side there are wide teak-covered platforms, which ensure comfortable entry on board.
So considering only the deck, without taking into account its interior spaces, Tempest 44 can accommodate more than 14 people in comfort if we also consider the spacious sundeck on the foredeck.
