Hydrosport is a Portuguese manufacturer of rigid inflatable boats which, since 1999, has several models ranged from 5mt to 9mt. The entire available variety is characterized by a reliable construction and a high performance rolling hull, which reduces fuel consumption and improves acceleration.

The available rib for testing was the 646 HC model which follows the rules of manufacturer, presents stunning and aggressive aspect characterized by sporty lines. The possibility of the 646 model to have two types of hull, the 646 HC and the 646 VFI which is equipped with a self-draining system, is really interesting.

The tubes are made by Hypalon Neoprene of medium diameter, tapered and cone-finished, featuring 5 chambers all with safety valves

The buyer has the possibility to choose among a very range of colors as well as to install different mooring dies, handles, inner cable lines or applications of non-slip reinforcements. Everything can be made depended on each customer’s preference without any affection on the final cost.

On the deck

On the deck we can find a central console of large dimension, offering a good protection to the pilot and co-pilot, the windshield of which is protected by a stainless steel handrail.

It has a built-in seat at the front with storage space and a plenty of room on its dashboard even for a 12-inch electronic device. The throttle control is located in the center of the console and the engine's instruments on the right, having the appropriate inclination so as to be easily read by the driver.

Concerning the seats, this version features a safe backrest for the driver and co-driver, and individual jockey seats at the rear with cushioned tubular backrest, also providing storage.

However the layout of the deck can also be customized according to the needs of the client, making it more efficient for family trips, water sports as skiing, snorkeling, fishing or diving.

At the bow there are two separate safe lockers, one for the anchor and the other one as storage of equipment, also serving as a seat. The area of the bow can also be used as comfortable sun deck.

All versions of the ribs have a build-in fuel tank which can be chosen to be either 90 or 170 lt.

At sea

In the tested version the new Honda engine 100hp was installed, so as to emphasize that the hull‘s efficiency is with no doubt one the main reason of the success of this semi rigid inflatable.

With a light breeze causing some wrinkles on the water, we had a smooth and comfortable riding, with very good stability, allowing a high cruising speed without obtaining unpredictable reactions.

With navigation ahead we verified the performance of its single stepped deep V hull and the way it surpasses each passage trough the wave, also proving its robustness.

It is worth mentioning that the 646 HC can move very fast with a 100 hp outboard engine reaching 38 knots of top speed, while the cruising speed ranges between 22 and 25 knots with fuel consumption of 0.6lt per nautical mile.

Although the above engine-boat combination is quite balanced, it may seem that another engine and propeller setup could improve this boat’s performance even better.
